I run a variety of workshops and drawing days in Oxfordshire, providing friendly, individual tuition in a relaxed atmosphere.

They are aimed at encouraging, developing skills and enjoying the exploration of various media.

Art Workshops available with Mary Knowland

Still Life
Line, tone and several media in varying techniques will be used to express what you see and what you know of the group of objects. Work from the whole set up or just an area of it with realism or abstracting what you see.

Looking At The Head
This is not portraiture. Observational work precedes an exploration of the presence of the sitter in several guises. Many characters and a few surprises may emerge! Some experience in drawing and painting is an advantage.

Natural Forms
Sandys House beautiful garden setting, shells, fruits, vegetables and pebbles can all be explored in colour, texture and pattern. Draw, paint, and collage your way through many ideas and approaches to the natural world.

Working From The Figure
Through a variety of poses and media we will look at several ways of expressing the presence of the figure within the space. There will be an opportunity to paint if desired. This is suitable for all levels of ability.

Mono Printing and Mixed Media
A fun and low tech approach to printing in monochrome or colour including use of stencils and making ghost prints. Mixed media work in charcoal, ink, paint, graphite etc. could include printed material in for example, a collage.

All workshops include tea, coffee and lunch for the all day sessions, and some materials but please bring your own too.
